Headteacher's Welcome
On behalf of the governing body, staff and children, I welcome you to the Kitchener Primary School website. I hope you enjoy your visit and find that the site offers a good insight into our thriving and happy school. Kitchener Primary School is a large, highly successful primary school in the Riverside area of Cardiff. The diverse multicultural composition of the school reflects the local community. The staff form a highly committed team dedicated to providing the best possible education for all the children and have created a curriculum which is interesting, fun and which is enriched by first hand experiences. The well being of each child is at the core of the curriculum at Kitchener. Happy children make good learners!
Kitchener is an urban school, but the many mature trees around the playgrounds give it a rural, spacious feel. We are very proud to be a dedicated Forest School with trained Forest School Leaders to enhance the curriculum in the Foundation Phase and KS2. The school site is well maintained with play structures in the playgrounds for all pupils.
Inside the school is well resourced with a library, computer suite, computers and interactive whiteboards in every classroom.
There are a large number of after school clubs run as part of the Study Support Programme ranging from art and craft to football, netball and tag rugby. There is also a strong musical tradition in the school with children performing in St David’s Hall, the Wales Millennium Centre and City Hall on a regular basis.
I hope that you enjoy looking at our website and I look forward to welcoming you to our school in the future.

Chair of Governors' Welcome
Kitchener Primary school values the education of all of its’ pupils and celebrates the wide range of cultures, languages and religious beliefs that they bring to the school. At the school we want every child to feel special, to feel valued and for their talents and contribution to be recognised and appreciated. Above all we want each child to develop an inquiring mind and a deep interest in learning.
The headteacher and staff work extremely hard to make learning in and outside the classroom enjoyable and challenging. It matters to them that every child has a chance to develop themselves to achieve their full potential through what they learn in the classroom and through their relationships with each other and with their teachers.
At Kitchener, education is not just about classroom learning but about being part of an interdependent world where respect, tolerance and appreciation of the needs and contribution of others as well as themselves is central to the ethos of the school and the community it serves.
It is particularly important that the parents of the diverse community which the school serves understand what the school is seeking to achieve with and for their children. The involvement of the parents on a day-to-day basis in their children’s education and in the major social and cultural events to which the school is party is a vital feature of the life of the school.
