Pupil Voice Groups

Pupil Voice

At Kitchener Primary School, pupil voice is central to everything we do. We believe that children learn best when they feel listened to, valued and empowered to shape their school community. Our pupils are encouraged to share their ideas, express their views and take an active role in improving school life.

Through a range of pupil leadership groups, children are given meaningful opportunities to influence decision-making, develop confidence and contribute positively to the life of the school.

School Council

The School Council provides pupils with a platform to share their ideas, opinions and concerns. Representatives from across the school meet regularly to discuss school improvement, wellbeing and matters that are important to pupils.

The School Council helps to:

  • Represent the views of pupils across the school
  • Support positive change and improvement
  • Promote pupil wellbeing and inclusion
  • Strengthen communication between pupils and staff

Playground Leaders

Playground Leaders support positive play and friendships during break times. They help to organise games, support younger pupils and encourage inclusive, respectful play.

This role helps develop leadership, confidence and responsibility while creating a happy and welcoming playground environment.

Near Peer Leaders

Near Peer Leaders support younger pupils by acting as positive role models and mentors. They help children feel safe, confident and included, particularly during transitions or unstructured times.

This role strengthens communication skills, empathy and leadership while fostering strong relationships across year groups.

Young Interpreters

Young Interpreters help support pupils who are new to English or new to our school. They act as friendly helpers, supporting communication, inclusion and understanding for children who may need extra help settling in.

They play an important role in helping new pupils feel welcome, confident and supported, promoting kindness, empathy and understanding across the school.

Digital Leaders

Digital Leaders promote safe, responsible and positive use of technology within the school. They support pupils and staff with digital learning and help raise awareness of online safety.

Through assemblies, classroom support and projects, Digital Leaders help ensure technology is used effectively and responsibly.

Eco Committee

The Eco Committee leads environmental initiatives across the school. Pupils work together to promote sustainability, environmental responsibility and care for the school environment.

Activities include recycling projects, environmental campaigns and developing awareness of climate and sustainability issues.

Criw Cymraeg

Criw Cymraeg promotes the Welsh language and culture throughout the school. Members encourage the use of Welsh in everyday school life and support activities that celebrate Wales and its heritage.

This group plays an important role in strengthening bilingualism and promoting pride in Welsh identity.

Inclusion, Diversity and Equality

This group ensures that all pupils feel represented, respected and included. Pupils work together to promote fairness, understanding and a strong sense of belonging across the school community.

Through discussion and action, the group helps ensure that everyone feels safe, valued and heard.

Our Commitment

At Kitchener Primary School, pupil voice is not an add-on — it is central to who we are. By listening to our pupils and valuing their contributions, we empower them to become confident, responsible and compassionate members of the school community.
