Admissions
Kitchener Primary School welcomes applications from families living in Cardiff and the surrounding areas. Admissions to our school are managed by Cardiff Council, and all applications must be made through the local authority’s online admissions system.
We work closely with Cardiff Council to ensure families are supported throughout the admissions process and have access to clear, up-to-date information.
Applying for a School Place
Children normally start Reception in the September following their fourth birthday. Applications for Reception places must be made directly to Cardiff Council and cannot be made through the school.
Applications are submitted online and parents are encouraged to apply as early as possible to ensure their application is considered on time.
Key points to note:
- Applications are made through Cardiff Council’s online admissions system.
- You can apply for more than one school and rank your preferences.
- Meeting the criteria or living close to the school does not guarantee a place.
- Late applications are considered after all on-time applications and may reduce the chance of securing a place.
Full guidance on the admissions process, key dates and how places are allocated can be found on the Cardiff Council website:

Nursery Admissions
Kitchener Primary School offers nursery provision for eligible children. Nursery places are allocated by Cardiff Council and are subject to availability.
Children may be eligible for a nursery place in the term following their third birthday. Applications for nursery places are made directly through Cardiff Council, not the school.
Please note that attendance at our nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception. A separate application must be made for Reception places when your child is due to start statutory education.
Important information for parents:
- Nursery places are limited and allocated in line with the local authority’s admissions criteria.
- Applications must be submitted by the published deadlines to be considered in the main allocation round.
- Late applications may only be considered if places remain available.
Full details about nursery admissions, key dates, eligibility and funding can be found on the Cardiff Council website:
