Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Inclusion, Diversity and Equity
At Kitchener Primary School, inclusion and equity are at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to be a diverse and welcoming school where every child and family is valued, respected and supported to thrive.
We believe that a strong sense of belonging enables children to feel confident, secure and ready to learn. Our school community celebrates diversity and works together to ensure that all pupils feel seen, heard and supported.
Diversity
“I am fully understood by the school and everyone in it.”
We celebrate the rich diversity of our school community. Family backgrounds, cultures, languages and traditions are recognised and respected across all aspects of school life.
Our curriculum reflects and celebrates difference, helping children to understand and value one another. Learning experiences are designed to promote respect, empathy and a strong sense of belonging.
Participation and Pupil Voice
“I feel heard. I have a voice. I can take part and be included.”
We believe every child should have opportunities to express their views and influence school life. Pupil voice is central to our approach, with structured opportunities for children to share their ideas and experiences.
We use a range of approaches to support participation, including:
- Pupil voice groups representing all year groups
- Circle time and assemblies focused on wellbeing and relationships
- Restorative approaches to build understanding and resolve difficulties
- Cooperative learning strategies that promote teamwork and inclusion
Inclusion and Support
“I can understand and take part in everything.”
We work closely with families to ensure that every child can access learning and school life fully. Support is personalised and responsive to individual needs.
This includes:
- Support for families with applications and forms, including free school meals and admissions
- Induction support for new families and pupils, including help from peer buddies
- Inclusive approaches to learning, ensuring all pupils can take part in lessons and activities
- Access to support for children with additional needs
Our Learning Environment
“The environment reflects who I am.”
Our school environment reflects the diversity of our community. Displays, books and learning materials represent a wide range of cultures, languages and lived experiences.
Over 37 community languages are spoken across our school, and this richness is celebrated through learning, events and everyday interactions.
We ensure that our school environment promotes pride, belonging and respect for all.
Communication and Partnership
We believe strong communication with families is essential. Information is shared clearly and accessibly, using a range of methods including digital platforms, written communication and face-to-face conversations.
Support is available for families who may need help accessing information, and we work closely with parents and carers to ensure everyone feels informed and included.
Our Commitment
Inclusion and equity are not just principles at Kitchener Primary School – they are central to who we are. We are committed to creating a school community where every child feels safe, respected and able to thrive.
